Report sought on MLA’s remarks against Mamata

The West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC) on Friday took suo motu cognisance of the offensive remarks made against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Anisur Rehman.

Commission chairperson Asok Kumar Ganguly directed the Director-General of the Police to submit within three weeks an inquiry report along with the statements made by Mr. Rehman. “Making such comments against a woman is a violation of her human rights. Taking into consideration the seriousness of the matter, the Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter based on media reports,” WBHRC joint commissioner Sujay Halder told The Hindu .

The WBHRC also directed the DGP to give his independent views on the matter.
