Manipur Chief Electoral Officer O. Nabakishore hinted that repolling may be held in five polling stations in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, due to booth capturing by militants. Fresh reports, however, indicate that this number may increase to ten. Polls were held in this constituency on Wednesday.

Reports said that in two polling stations, one each in Chandel and Senapati districts, the votes cast were higher than the actual number of voters.

Mr. Nabakishore said that by Friday afternoon all the ballot boxes will be brought to the office of the Returning Officer in Thoubal district. Four helicopters have been bringing these ballot boxes from inaccessible villages in the mountains. However, some of the ballot boxes were brought on foot from villages which have roads.

As reports are awaited from the polling stations, the officials are unable to give the exact polling percentage on Wednesday, although it is expected to be more than 90 per cent.

The polls for the general seat in Manipur will be held on April 17.
