Rajasthan to set up rehabilitation homes for the poor

The Rajasthan Rehabilitation of Beggars and Indigents Act, 2012, will come into effect from September 25.

It would effectively mean that the government will set up rehabilitation homes for the poor and destitute where food and healthcare facilities would be provided free of cost.

According to Sualal, Director, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, rehabilitation, will be carried out in close co-ordination with the departments concerned. To begin with, shelter homes will be opened in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner,Udaipur, Kota, Bharatpur and Ajmer.

In addition, two rehabilitation homes with a capacity of 100 each will also be set up at two religious places where the number of beggars is large. The rehabilitation centres will be run by non-governmental organisations.
