Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana arrive at consensus on issues

Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana arrived at a consensus on issues of water supply and construction of a road.

The understanding was reached at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Northern Zonal Council, comprising Chief Secretaries of northern States, here over the weekend.

Officers decided to construct a cross-regulator to prevent the backflow of water from the Sirhind Feeder Canal.

Another issue thrashed out was quick environmental clearance by the Haryana government’s Forest Department for widening a stretch of road between Rawari and Garhi Bolni.

Rajasthan Chief Secretary and Standing Committee chairman C.K. Mathew emphasised resolution of the issues amicably.

Other issues discussed included exchange of information on crime, liquor smuggling and sharing of water and power.

Rajasthan raised the issues of amendments in the Water and Air Acts and the Environment Protection Act, control on fertilizer and diammonium phosphate prices, minimum support price for some farm produce and development of Khushkheda-Bhiwadi-Neemrana area under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project.
