Rains lash Kashmir Valley

Rains lashed many parts of Kashmir Valley on Monday while the authorities in Bandipora district of north Kashmir have issued an avalanche warning.

The Meteorological department here has warned of heavy rainfall or snowfall along with hailstorm and thunder squall at a few places over the next 24 hours.

“Many areas of Kashmir Valley, including the summer capital Srinagar, were lashed by rains since early morning,” an official of the MET Department said.

He said there was a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains or snowfall at isolated places over the State.

“Moderate to rather heavy rains or snow will occur at most places over the State in the next 24 hours, while heavy rains or snow would occur at a few places,” he said. He said there would be an increase in rainfall in the State over the next few days. Meanwhile, the authorities in Bandipora have warned and asked people living in the hilly areas to remain cautious.

“In view of the weather predictions received from Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment, the Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, has informed people, living in hilly areas of Bandipora district, to remain cautious,” an official spokesman said.
