The Goa Mahila Morcha, women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Tuesday said that pub culture should remain within limits.

“Anything should not be misused and stretched too far — to an extent that it leads to abuse and nuisance,” said Vaidehi Naik, member, Goa Mahila Morcha, responding to a question at a press conference at the city BJP office. Ms. Naik is a former Mayor of the City Corporation of Panaji and continues to be a city corporator.

Ramkrishna Dhavlikar, Minister for Public Works, had opposed pub culture as being against Indian culture and was followed by Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Sripad Naik who said that pub culture needed to be controlled.

The press conference was called to hail Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s action on Monday to conduct surprise visits to some government offices to check late arrivals in government offices.
