Seven policemen and three civilians were injured as protests turned violent in Bhuj town of Kutch district on Sunday evening, the police said.

About 1,500 members from one community were protesting at the town police station against a message insulting their religious sentiments posted on WhatsApp by a 13-yer-old from another community.

“The police had already arrested the teen, but the people were still protesting. After a point the situation turned violent. The mob started pelting stones and damaged police vehicles. The police had to lob tear gas shells to disperse the crowd,” the local police station said.
