Parcel to FTII contains death letter to Kanhaiya

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Saturday night received a parcel allegedly containing a death letter addressed to Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) leader Kanhaiya Kumar, along with explosive powder and a detonator.

The grisly gesture was purportedly meant to serve a warning to students of dire consequences they would face if Mr. Kumar was invited to speak inside the campus.

The parcel has created a flutter inside the campus, with the needle of suspicion on fringe right-wing groups. The city police are investigating the matter.

During his talk in the city last month, the FTII Students’ Association (FSA), despite broadly backing Mr. Kumar’s speech, was careful not to issue a formal invite to the controversial student leader to give a speech on the campus.

At the same time, the FSA had made clear that Mr. Kumar was welcome to the campus as a student leader or a fellow comrade as the student body had no intention of shying away from politics.
