Bid to cover up the misdeeds: Akalis

Congress Punjab affairs incharge Asha Kumari on Friday said the party has not received any written complaint against the Punjab Minister who has been accused of sending objectionable messages to a woman government official.

“We have not received any complaint from anyone. If any complaint comes before the party, we will look into it,” she told reporters here.

‘Issue resolved’

Ms. Kumari said the issue was between the Chief Minister and the Minister and had been resolved. A woman IAS officer had accused the Minister of sending her inappropriate messages.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal alleged that Ms. Kumari was trying to cover up the misdeeds of the Minister.

‘Intense pressure’

“It seems there is intense pressure on Ms. Kumari from the Congress high command to give a clean chit to the accused Minister. AICC president Rahul Gandhi should tell Punjabis why he was adopting double standards on the issue of women's safety. The Congress demanded M.J. Akbar’s resignation from the Union Cabinet after he was accused of sexually harassing women journalists in his role as an editor, but has been actively sheltering someone who has committed similar transgressions as a Minister,” said Mr. Badal.
