The house in Darjeeling where Sister Nivedita, Swami Vivekananda’s disciple, breathed her last has been handed over to the State government. The Ramakrishna Mission is entrusted with the task of turning the 102-year-old heritage building into an educational and cultural centre.
“There is lot of sentiment associated with the place. We plan to set up a centre for language education and cultural studies in the house. Facilities for imparting various training to women, a girl’s school, and a campus of the Vivekananda University will also come up at the place,” Swami Shubakarananda, who is in charge of the Mission’s legal cell, told The Hindu on Friday.
Swami Shubakarananda had accompanied Ramakrishna Mission’s general secretary Swami Suhitananda to Darjeeling where an agreement between the State government, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration and the Mission was signed on Thursday.
