In a symbolic gesture, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday tied a rakhi to a tree and said his government was committed to protecting the environment and creating awareness among the people about it.

Accompanied by his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi, Mr. Kumar visited the Rajdhani Vatika (a park) where he tied the rakhi to the tree.

“Today[Saturday], the people of Bihar should pledge that every one of them will plant at least one tree each and tie rakhis to trees across the State,” he told the gathering. He highlighted steps taken by his government for planting trees under the ‘Green Bihar Programme.'
