NIA files charge sheet in Jheeram Ghati attack case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed the first charge sheet in the Jheeram Ghati naxal attack case against nine of the accused before a special court at Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh.

This case relates to the planned attack by over 150 Naxal cadres on the convoy of a Parivartan Yatra of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee on May 25 last year in Jheeram Ghati on the Jagdalpur-Sukma highway.

In all, 27 people, including Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee president Nand Kumar Patel, his son, Dinesh Patel, former Union Minister Vidya Charan Shukla, senior leader Mahendra Karma and former legislator Uday Mudaliyar were killed in the attack.

“During the incident, the Maoists looted the weapons of police personnel who were killed or injured. Those charge-sheeted in the case are Pramila Modiyam, Banjami Sanna, Ayata Madkam, Mukka Mandavi, Madkami Deva, Kawasi Kosa, Chaitu Lekam, Kawasi Kosa and Mahadev Nag. The probe has purportedly established that the attack was part of a regular “tactical counter-offensive campaign” of the Naxals.
