August 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 12:50 pm IST - Rajnandgaon:

Security forces have busted a transit Naxal camp following a gun-battle with rebels and recovered two firearms in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Rajnandgaon district on Sunday, the police said.

The skirmish between a joint team of security personnel and rebels took place in restive Kundakaal hills under Madanwada police station limits, Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police P Sundarraj told PTI.

Based on a specific input about a gathering of ultras to observe Martyrs’ Week in Kundakaal forests, located around 200 km away from the state capital, a joint squad of Special Task Force (STF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and district force was dispatched to the spot for a search operation, the senior officer said.

On sensing the presence of police on the hills near the spot, a group of armed rebels opened indiscriminate firing, following which they retaliated.

However, on finding jawans zeroing in on them after intermittent firing of about half-an-hour, rebels escaped taking the advantage of rough terrain and dense forest, the SP said.

Later, one 303 rifle, four rounds, one 315 bore rifle, 11 rounds, 12 bags, one camera flash, polythene sheets, utensils, medicines, naxal literatures and medicines were recovered, the officer added. -- PTI
