Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday flagged off a fleet of 32 buses which would ply in Maoist-affected districts of Odisha.
“The State government has launched Biju Gaon Gadi Yojna for improvement in transportation in left wing extremists affected districts. Twenty-five small buses are already in service in these areas. In the second phase, 32 more buses would start operating in undivided Koraput, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts,” said Mr. Patnaik. Bus services will certainly be a great help for people of these areas, he maintained.
Under Biju Gaon Gadi Yojna, the State Government had announced to operate 100 buses in 71 identified routes in LWE-affected districts.

Speaking on the occasion, State Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi said: “The government has already launched 57 buses. We will very soon purchase rest 43 buses in 2015-16 financial year.”
There is very poor presence of privately run buses in LWE affected districts especially southern ones. Most of remote areas of these district could not be reached in absence of public transportation system. Fleet of all 100 buses which would be plying by next fiscal is expected to improve road communication in these areas.
