The Crime Branch of Mumbai police has arrested six persons from New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Pune, who ran a racket that provided dummy candidates to MBA aspirants in order to help them clear entrance examinations to courses in Mumbai’s colleges. The police also confiscated forged documents such as ID cards, Aadhar cards, voter ID cards and PAN cards.Investigations revealed that this kind of malpractice is rampant in prestigious institutes all over the country with many education consultancy firms and coaching classes guilty of such practices.
Varsha Parab, Director Administration, I/c registrar at the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) filed a complaint after he noticed that a candidate’s photograph taken at the time of online written NMAT test 2013 was different from the picture on a form filled for personal interview. The NMIMS authorities conducted a thorough check and found that about 75 students, in the final merit of 2500, impersonated and committed forgery while appearing for the online test.
“The cyber crime police and crime branch conducted the investigation and Brajendrapratap Rampratap Singh, who is the resident of Delhi, was arrested on April 26,” said Himanshu Roy, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

Investigation revealed that Mr. Singh promised a student a ‘management quota’ seat, which would cost Rs 15 lakh.
“He told the student to not appear for the online exam and took Rs. 7.5 lakh from him. He employed a dummy for the exam and cleared the online test. He collected remaining amount from the student after the latter was cleared for group discussion and interview,” Mr. Roy said.
Till now, the police have identified ‘Career Guardian’ firm at Ghaziabad, U.P.) and New Delhi’s Meta Consultancy as the firms involved in this racket.
