A day after he hinted at the possibility of early Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh on Saturday told party workers that capturing power at the Centre should be the next target and exhorted them to make this a reality. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister was addressing a gathering at the SP headquarters here.
Mr. Singh said that after the victory in the 2012 Assembly polls, which led to the formation of the SP government in Uttar Pradesh, the party should now focus on the Lok Sabha elections.
On Friday, at a function to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of the Samajwadi ideologue, Ram Manohar Lohia, Mr. Singh had said the Lok Sabha polls could be held any time. He said the workers should ensure that all the 80 Lok Sabha seats were won by the SP.

Addressing the workers, Mr. Singh laid a roadmap for them; the underlying objective was to bring the SP closer to the people. Even as he emphasised one-to-one contact with the people, he asked the cadre and supporters to ensure that the problems of the people, especially the farmers and the unemployed, were solved at the earliest.
