Rebel Congress candidate from northern Assam’s Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency Moni Kumar Subba, who won from the seat three times, turned out to be the richest among the 56 candidate who have filed nominations for the first phase of polling in the state for five Lok Sabha seats. Mr. Subba has declared in the election affidavit total asset worth more than Rs. 205 crore in his name.
This includes moveable assets worth Rs. 59.17 crore and immovable assets worth Rs. 146.33 crore. The former MP, who filed his papers from the constituency on Friday, has declared liabilities of Rs. 50.34 crore in his name. His two wives Jyoti Subba and Tilamaya Chong together own moveable assets worth Rs 33.63 crore and liabilities worth Rs. 14.2 crore in their names. His three dependents have total moveable assets worth Rs. 67.4 crore and liabalities worth Rs. 66.3 crore in their names.
Mr. Subba, who completed his Middle English course from Gandhi Vidyalaya, Borddubi in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district in 1972, has shown his annual income in his return for the 2012-13 assessment year to be Rs. 23.86 lakh. Mr. Subba ignored warning by PCC President Bhubaneswar Kalita of disciplinary action if he stood against party’s official nominee. The Congress has fielded party legislator from Bihpuria assembly constituency Bhupen Kumar Bora for the seat.
