Margaret Alva takes oath as Goa Governor

Governor of Rajasthan and Gujarat Margaret Alva was on Saturday evening sworn in as Governor of Goa at Raj Bhavan near here.

Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Justice Mohit Shantilal Shah administered the oath of office to Ms. Alva at a simple ceremony held at the Darbar hall.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, his Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries were present.

B. V. Wanchoo recently resigned as Governor of Goa hours after he was quizzed by CBI as witness in the AgustaWestland chopper case.

PTI adds:

Ms. Alva had been earlier ‘Goa desk in-charge’ of Congress.

She was a member of Rajya Sabha from 1974 to 1998, and of the Lok Sabha from 1999 to 2004.

She has served as a Union minister and as general secretary of Congress. In 2009, she was appointed the Governor of Uttarakhand, and transferred to Rajasthan in 2012.
