Manmohan opens facility at Asian Heart Institute

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday visited the city’s Asian Heart Institute (AHI) on the occasion of the hospital’s 10th anniversary.

Set up in 2002, the AHI, located in the Bandra-Kurla complex, is the country’s highest accredited hospital. Director, AHI, Dr. Ramakant Panda had performed a complex redo bypass on Dr. Singh in January 2009. The hour-long visit saw the Prime Minister inaugurate the 6th floor of the hospital. His wife Gursharan Kaur inaugurated the state-of-the-art Robotic and Minimally invasive surgery operation theatre.

Also present were Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Health Minister Suresh Shetty, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla, MP Dinesh Trivedi and businesswoman Nita Ambani.

The visit was part of Dr. Singh’s day-long itinerary in the city.
