Manipur militants surrender with weapons

Fourteen militants belonging to the Kangleipak Communist Party, Military Council, Nongdrenkhomba group, surrendered to the Assam Rifles authority on Thursday along with weapons.

It may be recalled that on September 9, 2013, the leader of this outfit, Nongdrenkhomba Ningthoujam and his followers had surrendered along with weapons in front of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam Gangmei.

Thursday’s surrender took place at the camp of 6 Assam Rifles in Bishnupur district. They had brought 12 weapons, mostly AK series, hand guns, greandes. Officials said that they would be lodged in the designated camp.

Some non-tribal and most of the tribal underground organisations in Manipur had come overground after signing the suspension of operations with the government.
