Mudassir Kherudi, a native of Haveri, Karnataka, who was arrested on the charge of murdering a 72-year-old tourist taxi driver at Vasco in south Goa on Thursday, was on Friday remanded in police custody for six days.
The Vasco police produced Mudassir (25) before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco.
The accused was arrested by the police team from Panaji sub-division office while he was trying to flee the State in a Bengaluru-bound bus on Thursday night. He allegedly killed taxi driver Dharma Patekar with a knife at Chicalim, near Vasco and fled with his vehicle.

However, the police tried to intercept the vehicle and the accused abandoned it at Siridao on NH-17 and went to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, for medical treatment as he had suffered injuries to his right hand during a scuffle with the taxi driver. In the hospital, the doctors told him to go to the out-patient department and fill a form. But, he requested the doctors to bind the wound with a bandage as he was in a hurry to catch the bus.
The accused, after the wound was bandaged, fled from the hospital. Noticing him running from the hospital casualty ward, the doctors alerted the police, who then started checking all the inter-State buses. The accused was found sitting in the last seat of the Bengaluru-bound bus. The police then brought him to the Panaji police station, where he confessed to the crime.
