A 51-year-old intellectually disabled woman was molested at a deserted bus depot in the southern fringes of the city on Monday night, but the police are yet to nab the accused who gave them the slip after being caught by locals. The police, left red-faced by the incident, said that efforts to nab the man were on.
Senior officers at the Lalbazar police headquarters said here on Wednesday that necessary medical tests on the woman has been conducted and a case has been registered at the Thakurpukur police station under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code that deals with assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
The victim, a vagabond, has been sent to a State-run home, the police said.

According to reports, at about 11.45 p.m. on Monday, locals rushed to the bus depot on hearing the woman’s screams. They caught the offender and informed the police, but the accused managed to flee when the police was talking to the victim.
Case against Minister’s former assistant
Meanwhile, a case of assault and cheating was lodged with the Garfa police station in the south suburban fringes of the city against Bapi Karim, a former assistant of West Bengal Sports and Transport Minister Madan Mitra. In the complaint, a woman alleged that Mr. Karim cheated and married her without telling her that he was already married. The accused is also the brother of a senior youth Trinamool Congress leader.

The Minister, however, denied any association with the accused and said that he had sacked him in November 2011.
