Malegaon blasts accused files bail plea

The ninth accused in the 2006 Malegaon blasts case filed a bail application in the MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) court here on Tuesday after the other eight accused filed their pleas on October 1.

“We filed my brother's bail application in the court today. The court has sent a notice to the public prosecutor,” Jaleel Ahmed Gulam Ahmed, brother of the 41-year-old Abrar Ahmed Gulam Ahmed told The Hindu here. He said the bail plea will come up for hearing on October 31.

This is the second time the accused have filed bail applications. The case was earlier investigated by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), then handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The National Investigation Agency is investigating the matter now. The agency has already conducted tests like brain mapping and lie detection on the accused and the reports are awaited, sources told

The Hindu . The nine accused were booked for the blasts by the ATS. Later, Swami Aseemanand confessed to the involvement of Hindu extremists in the blasts which killed 37 persons and injured more than 100.
