The former West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and West Bengal Left Front Committee chairman Biman Bose will participate in a mass rally here on July 12 to demand a rollback of the recent hike in fuel prices by the United Progressive Alliance government, according to a press statement released on Saturday by the Calcutta District Left Front Committee (CDLFC).

According to the statement, the UPA government's decision to hike the prices of LPG, diesel and kerosene was criticised at a meeting convened by the CDLFC on Friday, since the step would directly affect the common man.

“As a result of the decision, prices of essential commodities have already started spiralling and will increase further. The Calcutta District Left Front Committee has adopted a series of programmes in protest against the anti-people decision of the Centre.”
