Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Thursday announced the candidature of his wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misa Bharti for the Lok Sabha elections.

The RJD released its first list of candidates for 25 of the 27 seats it will contest in Bihar. The remaining seats have been given to the Congress (12) and the Nationalist Congress Party (one).

Ms. Rabri Devi will contest from Saran, which Mr. Prasad won in 2009. However, he was disqualified after his conviction in the fodder scam case.

In her first election, Ms. Bharti has been fielded in Patliputra. “I have mustered the courage to bring my daughter to politics,” he said.

Patliputra is now held by Ranjan Prasad Yadav of the Janata Dal (United).

Mr. Prasad contested from this constituency in 2009 but did not win.

JD(U) fields Jha

Meanwhile, the JD(U) has fielded filmmaker Prakash Jha from West Champaran, known as Bettiah before delimitation.

The Raajneeti director contested the seat in 2009 as a Lok Jan Shakti Party candidate but lost to Sanjay Jaiswal of the BJP. He had unsuccessfully contested the 2004 Lok Sabha elections as an Independent from Bettiah.
