Criticising the BJP government in Haryana for its “failure” to resolve the issue of reservation, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh, a prominent Jat leader, on Sunday appealed to the protesters to suspend their agitation, as the government had now agreed to a dialogue. “The agitation is causing loss to the State and to the community… The situation in Haryana has currently reached a stage where I think the agitation needs to be suspended,” he said.
He condemned the Centre for deploying the Army. Accusing the BJP of trying to divide the people of Haryana on the lines of caste, Mr. Singh said the party’s approach had become apparent in the run-up to the recent Assembly elections when instead of naming the chief ministerial candidate, it played caste politicsSupporting the community’s demand for reservation in Haryana, the RLD chief said that Jats already enjoyed reservation in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
