‘IIM-C produced more research papers than all IIMs together’

The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) produced more papers in the past year than all the other Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs) put together, chairman of the institute’s Board of Governors Ajit Balakrishnan said here on Friday

“In the past year; 66 papers were written, presented and published in international journals. Sixty eight were presented in international conferences. Fourteen in national conferencing and 29 other working papers,” he said at the 52 Foundation Day celebrations of the IIM–C.

Stating that a lot of creative activity went on at the Institute, he said the research papers were the output of only 90 of its faculty members.

Referring to a paper published by a faculty member on an algorithm for dynamic spectrum allocation, Mr. Balakrishnan said it could be helpful when a lot of thinking was going on across the world, that spectrum should never be owned and given to one person exclusively; it should be dynamically allocated when it was needed.

On the high ratings achieved by the IIM-C in the global ranking of management institutes across the world carried out by Financial Times , Mr. Balakrishnan, who is also the founder and CEO of rediff.com said, “It is not out of nothing that the IIM-C got such high rankings.”

Saibal Chattopadhyay, director IIM-C, said the Institute was ranked 19th among the 70 business schools rated across the globe by

Financial Times and ranked first in finance and second in economics.

The IIM-C was working towards becoming an international centre of excellence in all areas of management with a focus on research and academic excellence, he said.
