Himachal cricket association petitions against sports Bill

June 13, 2015 12:25 am | Updated 12:25 am IST - SHIMLA:

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association on Friday submitted a memorandum to Governor Kalyan Singh at Raj Bhavan against the proposed sports Bill enacted by the Virbhadra Singh government. HPCA general secretary Vishal Marwah and all other office-bearers, who are otherwise facing legal cases filed by the incumbent government, submitted the memorandum.

The HPCA headed by the Hamirpur Lok Sabha member Anurag Thakur, who is also the elder son of former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, had been maintaining that the new legislation would increase the interference of the State government. The HPCA has alleged that the proposed Bill will curb the autonomy of all sports associations.

“No State has passed such legislation so far expect the State of Rajasthan where the matter is pending in court,” said HPCA spokesperson Mohit Sood.
