Hijab case needs thorough hearing: judge

April 23, 2013 03:13 am | Updated 03:13 am IST - Guwahati

The Gauhati High Court on Monday admitted a writ petition, filed by the mother of a four-year old Muslim girl, after a Catholic mission-run school near Bokakhat in upper Assam’s Golaghat district refused to allow the child to wear a hijab (headscarf) along with the uniform.

Jayanta Kumar Goswami, counsel for Alee Ahmed, told The Hindu that Justice Hrishikesh Roy observed that the case, involving a larger issue related to minority communities, called for thorough hearing.

It was listed for the period after one week.
