A hardcore woman Maoist cadre from Chhatisgarh, Jyoti Madkami alias Susmita, who had four lakh rupees reward on her head in Odisha surrendered before police in Boudh district of Odisha.

She surrendered before Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, southern range, Amitabh Thakur and Boudh Superintendent of Police (SP) B.Gangadhar. She was an Area Committee (ACM) rank member of Kalahandi Kandhamal Boudh Nayagarh (KKBN) division of outlawed CPI (Maoist) organization. This Maoist division is dominated by ultras from adjoining Chhatisgarh and is trying hard to increase its support base in concerned districts of Odisha.

Speaking to The Hindu , the DIG Mr Thakur said around three years back Madkami had been deputed to Odisha by the Maoist organization. After entering Odisha she had first worked as a Maoist cadre in Bargarh, Bolangir and Kalahandi districts. Then she had started operating in Boudh and adjoining Angul district. Through a frontal organization named ‘Chetna Natya Mandali’ she was making efforts to recruit new cadres from Odisha.

She was also involved in at least six exchanges of fire with security forces in Odisha. She was in the most wanted list of Odisha police and Odisha government had declared a reward of four lakh rupees for her capture.

Frustrated by the violent activities of Maoist organization, Madkami surrendered before police to lead normal life again.
