Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday said that his government would continue with its development agenda despite curtailment of fund by the Centre. Mr. Gogoi also announced that there would be no job cut and his government would give 53,000 appointments in the current financial year.
Mr. Gogoi stated these while replying to a debate in the Assam Assembly on the motion of thanks on Governor’s address.
Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government of not releasing allocated fund for various centrally funded schemes, the Chief Minister said that such action on the part of the Centre could not deter his government from carrying forward the development agenda. “The pace of development process in such a situation may not be as fast as we desire it to be but we will continue as planned. There will also be no curtailment of government job. I will continue to fight for what is due to the people of Assam,” he said.

Mr Gogoi insisted that if Assam was not provided a special financial package by the Centre it would continue to lag far behind the advanced states. He claimed that the state has considerable
progress as indicated by statistics of Gross State Domestic Product, growth rate of per capita income, deposits and credits etc. mentioned in the Economic Survey presented in the parliament by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
The Chief Minister also accused the NDA government of adopting delaying tactics in implementation of the National Food Security Act in the state by insisting on digitisation of the data, a condition, which he alleged, was not there earlier. He also urged the Centre to set up large infrastructure projects in the state adding that private investors would not come forward for building such projects in the State.
