Goa BJP vice-president, wife and son booked in dowry case

They allegedly harassed, assaulted daughter-in-law

PANAJI: The Panaji Police on Wednesday booked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State vice-president Anil Hoble, his wife and son, Milind, for assaulting his daughter in-law and harassing her for dowry.

According to a First Information Report filed at the Women’s Police Station in Panaji following a complaint by the victim’s mother, Suchita Shirodkar, Mr. Hoble and the two others have been booked under Sections 498 (a), 323 (domestic violence causing hurt) 506 (ii) (criminal intention) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. “An FIR has been registered following a complaint by Ms. Shirodkar, who is based in Mumbai. The case is under investigation,” Superintendent of Police(Crime) Karthik Kashyap told The Hindu .

Mr. Hoble dismissed the allegations as baseless, and told reporters that he would tell the truth at the appropriate time.

In her complaint, Ms. Shirodkar has said that she received a call from Mr. Hoble around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, asking her to pick up her daughter from their residence near Panaji. “When we reached there, my daughter had injury marks. Mr. Hoble threatened to shoot us and chop us up with a knife,” she said.

The complainant has alleged that Mr. Hoble and his family had been demanding dowry from her daughter since she married his son, Milind, in 2009.
