Four dead as bus falls off road near Dehradun

Four persons were killed and 40 injured in a bus accident at Almora district’s Bajol village, on Sunday morning.

According to the Almora district disaster management department the dead include a woman and her three-month-old son.

The Uttarakhand Roadways bus, which was travelling from Delhi to Ranikhet, fell off the road into a 40 metres deep valley, at a distance of about 15 kilometres from its destination.

Station House Officer (SHO) of the Ranikhet police B C Sharma said, “The preliminary enquiry shows that the driver is responsible for the accident. The driver might have dozed off while driving, or, might have taken a sharp turn that might have caused the accident.”

The injured were rushed to hospitals in Haldwani and Ranikhet, Mr. Sharma said.
