Five minors caught for theft, betting

: Five minors, involved in theft of computer peripherals and other electronic equipment from schools to procure money for cricket betting during World Cup matches, were nabbed by Berhampur police.

Leader of this gang had passed Class X while others were found to be school drop outs. They have been sent to ‘Government Special Observation Home for Boys’ in the city.

They hail from Lochapada, Nimakhandi and Gate Baar areas of Berhampur.

Thirteen computers with their LED screens, two projectors, one printer, one digital camera, two web-cams, five cycles and other computer hardware were seized from the possession of minors.

Most of the seized items had been stolen from Queen’s Mission High School in Berhampur.

On March 12 night, nine computers and a projector had been stolen from this school.

Investigation has revealed that this gang of minors was also involved in theft of computers and electronic items from a high school at Nimakhandi and the office of a builder in Gandhi Nagar area of Berhampur.

These minors were selling the stolen items and using the money for betting during cricket matches. They were selling each computer peripheral with the LED screen for 15,000 rupees.

The owner of an internet browsing and computer games centre has been arrested on charges of buying stolen goods from the minors.
