Five Maoists arrested

Five Maoists were arrested in Kalimela police station area of Malkangiri district of Odisha on Friday.

They were nabbed from Peda Tekguda village during a joint operation by personnel of Special Operation Group (SOG) and Border Security Force (BSF). According to Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Mitrabhanu Mohapatra, the arrested Maoists included Irma Kabasi (35), who had a reward of Rs.1 lakh on his head. Kabasi was an armed cadre and member of Kalimela area committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) organisation. He was involved in the landmine blast near MV126 village on July 16, 2008, which had killed 17 SOG personnel travelling in an anti-landmine vehicle.

Another prize catch was Bandi Madhi (30), who was involved in the Alampaka ambush in Balimela reservoir on June 29, 2008, in which 38 security personnel, including 36 greyhound commandoes from Andhra Pradesh, had been martyred. Madhi was also among the Maoists who had attacked Pachpatmali hill top bauxite mines at Damanjodi in Koraput district on April 12, 2009, night.

The other arrested Maoists were Madhi Ganga (26) involved in blasting of school building at MPV66 and Tekguda landmine blast, Bhima Madkami (30), who had been injured by a bullet of security personnel in 2007 and a militia Anda Madi (21).
