Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma was on Tuesday booked by the Uttar Pradesh police for reportedly calling the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi the "biggest goonda" of the RSS and dubbing party president Rajnath Singh his "slave."

An FIR was registered against Mr. Verma at the Sadullah Nagar police station in Balrampur for violation of the Model Code of Conduct, district magistrate Mukesh Chandra said.

A report of Mr. Verma's statement, which was made during a public meeting, was also sent to the Election Commission.

Mr. Verma, Congress MP from Gonda, had on April 1 reportedly said that as "Modi could not have become prime ministerial candidate without the nod of Rajnath Singh, it proved that Rajnath Singh was not the party president but Modi's slave."
