Encounters with Maoists in Gadchiroli, three jawans injured

The insurgency-hit Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra witnessed three encounters between Maoists and the security forces in the last 48 hours, resulting in injuries to three security forces personnel.

The first encounter was reported from the Kurkheda division of Gadchiroli.

“An encounter took place in the Talwargad forest under the Gyarapati police station limits of the Kurkheda division at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Due to intense retaliation from the security forces, the Maoists fled the spot, leaving behind their weapons and ammunition. Three locally made guns, one Maoist uniform, backpacks, and Maoist literature, were recovered from the spot of the encounter,” Gadchiroli district police said in a statement.

The second encounter took place in the Bhamargad division of the district on Tuesday night. A team of policemen managed to recover a landmine after this encounter.

The third encounter was reported from the Koparshi forest area of the Bhamaragad division bordering Chhattisgarh on Wednesday.

“The Maoists attacked a joint team of the police and the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), which was carrying out an anti-Maoist operation in the Koparshi forest area today. The joint police and the CRPF team also retaliated the fire. The Maoists managed to flee, taking advantage of the thick forest cover. But CRPF constable T.Gunia and district police constable Giridhar Tulavi and Vijay Thakur suffered injuries during this encounter. All three were shifted to Raipur for treatment,” said a statement issued by the office of the Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli district.
