Film Director, State minister appear before ED

Award winning film director and actor Aparna Sen appeared before the Enforcement Director in connection with the ongoing investigation in the Saradha Scam on a day when a minister of the Mamata Banerjee government was also summoned.

A few days ago, Ms Sen was summoned by the central investigation agency and appeared before them, on Monday she appeared at the office of the agency located in Salt Lake. She was accompanied by her husband Kalyan Roy. She was associated with one of journals published by the media wing of the Saradha Group.

In a related development, State’s Textile Minister Shyamada Mukherjee who was summoned by the ED last week also appeared before the ED. Mr Mukherjee had sold a cement factory to the Saradha Group chairperson Sudipta Sen at a price of over Rs 2 crore his lawyer claimed.

“It is a baseless complaint,” the Minister said, referring to allegation that he sold the factory at an over-valued rate.

“Can there be any pressure on buying or selling something,’ Mr Mukherjee said, when asked whether there was any pressure to contract the deal.

He is the first Minister of the All India Trinamool Congress to be summoned by the ED in connection with the Saradha Group scam.
