Even as the suspension of Gautam Buddha Nagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) Durga Shakti Nagpal has snowballed into a major controversy with the Samajwadi Party Government and the Centre on a collision course, the report of the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) has added a new dimension to the issue.

The report dated July 27, the day on which the officer was suspended on charges of ordering the demolition of the wall of an under-construction mosque in Kadalpur village, mentions that the Circle Officer, Jevar, and the Jevar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) were present. The presence of the SDM–Sadar (Durga Shakti Nagpal) has not been mentioned in the LIU report.

Sources said the report was sent to the Government last week.

They attributed the mention of SDM (Jevar) in the LIU report to typo error and reiterated that the SDM (Sadar) was present in Kadalpur village when the wall of the mosque was demolished. Sources said it was on the basis of Meerut Division Commissioner Manjit Singh’s report to the Government that a charge sheet was issued to Ms. Nagpal. Had it not been the case, then the SDM (Jevar) would have been suspended, these sources said.
