Digvijay rules out leadership change in Assam

All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of party affairs in Assam Digvijay Singh on Saturday ruled out any leadership change in the State. He said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi would complete his full term. Any reshuffle in the Ministry was the prerogative of the Chief Minister and the AICC would not interfere in it.

Mr. Singh was talking to journalists in the presence of Mr .Gogoi and PCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita at Rajiv Bhawan after a joint meeting of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and Congress Legislature Party (CLP).

On Friday, 31 Congress legislators met him on Friday and reportedly demanded a leadership change.

Mr. Singh held a series of meetings with Ministers and Congress legislators, besides holding discussions with Mr. Gogoi and Mr. Kalita to find ways to patch up differences.

“Redress grievances”

He said the party has requested Mr. Gogoi to open a cell in his office to redress the grievances of legislators and to monitor the progress of various schemes and programmes in different constituencies.

Mr. Singh reiterated that the party would contest the next Lok Sabha polls in the State under the leadership of the PCC president and the Chief Minister. He said any act of indiscipline by anyone would be dealt with firmly. Strict warnings had been issued to all concerned.
