Cyclone Hudhud recedes, brings heavy rain to U.P., Bihar

While cyclone Hudhud, which wreaked havoc on Vishakhapatnam on Sunday, receded into a depression, it is causing “heavy to very heavy rainfall” in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the Indian Meteorological Department said.

However, Hudhud, which claimed about 24 lives, was not the fiercest storm India had seen, the IMD said.

“There can be no comparison between any two cyclones because they occur in different places… Phailin went to Gopalpur which is 250 km away from Vizag… if it had hit Vizag it would have caused a lot more damage,” L.S.Rathore, Director General of Meteorology, IMD told

“Even as a depression it is now bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar,” he said.

He predicted the depression was likely to bring heavy rainfall in other States too including Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
