Cong. flays civic body over Swachh Bharat

October 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Open defecation, garbage on the streets, and lack of sanitation around North Delhi have proved that the civic body has failed to implement the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Opposition Congress said on Monday.

Mukesh Goel, Leader of the Opposition in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, said the BJP leadership of the civic body had ‘ignored the Prime Minister’s call for cleaning India’.

Mr. Goel recently conducted impromptu inspections around North Delhi and found people relieving themselves in public, heaps of trash on the roads, and garbage dumps or

“People are forced to urinate and defecate in the open as there is a shortage of public toilets. On one hand, the BJP claims the Delhi government is not giving funds, but it appears it hasn’t used the funds already provided,” said the Congress councillor.

Meanwhile, Mayor Ravinder Gupta announced a ward-wise plan for improving sanitation.

From Monday to October 29, inspections will be held in all wards to check the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission. Senior officials, including additional commissioners and the area councillor, will take part in the drive.
