ECoR says best quality of fire retardant material will be ensured in compartments

Close on the heels of back-to-back fire tragedies on running trains and Indian Railways’ emphasis on preventing fire accidents, the East Coast Railway on Thursday said it was taking steps to form a comprehensive action plan to prevent fire on trains.

“Each passenger rake will be thoroughly checked and best quality of fire retardant material will be ensured,” East Coast Railways said in a statement.

Surprise inspections, even at night are being organised by senior railway officers to keep a strict vigil in this regard. Strict action shall be taken against those found responsible for lapses on their duty, it said.

“Apart from this, the ECoR is already geared up to prevent carrying of fire hazard items in passenger trains. Carrying inflammable items in train journey is strictly prohibited and the ECoR has already formed special squads to keep a strict vigil on carrying inflammable items in trains for the safety of the passengers,” it said.

The ECoR has also urged passengers to be careful and not to carry and also not let their co-passengers carry inflammable objects while travelling on trains. “If any passenger is seen carrying inflammable items, the co-passengers are requested to inform on duty railway staff to save the train passengers from danger,” ECoR said.
