Complaint against Shahrukh being probed

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday sent a team of health officials to Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan’s house in suburban Mumbai to ascertain the veracity of a complaint filed against him and his wife for allegedly violating the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PCPNDT) Act.

Following a news report published in a tabloid in Mumbai, where it was stated that the star couple was having a third child through surrogacy and that it would be a boy, advocate Varsha Deshpande had filed a complaint with the State government and the BMC against the actor and the hospital for selecting and revealing the sex of the foetus.

“If the report in the tabloid is true, then it means that the actor has violated the law. Immediate action should be taken against the actor, his wife, the doctor and the hospital,” Ms. Deshpande told

The Hindu . Ms. Deshpande is a member of National Inspection and Monitoring Committee for PCPNDT, Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Government of India.

Maharashtra’s Minister of Health Suresh Shetty on Monday morning asked the BMC officials to ascertain the veracity of matter, following which the team of health officials reached Mr. Khan’s house. “We had sent the team, but he [Khan] was not present. We were told that the actor is abroad,” said a BMC official.

According to the official, the BMC will now mail a questionnaire to Mr. Khan regarding the issue.
