Curfew was clamped in Rajasthan’s Nimaj town, about 220 km. from here on Thursday after communal clashes broke out. On Friday, however, the situation came under control with the deployment of over 300 Special Task Force and Rajasthan Armed Constabulary personnel.
While one person was injured and some property damaged, no casualty was reported.
Tension flared up in the town, when a religious procession was taken out on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. As the procession passed a mosque, worshippers inside objected to the chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Subsequently, a quarrel broke out between the two groups, soon escalating into a violent clash after one of the groups pelted a stone on the other.

The mob reportedly torched two jeeps and two motorcycles and damaged several houses and shops.
“We have arrested 36 persons,” Pali Superintendent of Police K.B. Vandana told

Four cases have been registered.
The clash in Nimaj is the sixth such incident in April alone. Similar clashes have been reported over the last three weeks from Sanganer (Jaipur), Makrana (Nagaur), Sarwar (Ajmer), Udaipur and Baran.
