Assam Rifles, CRPF and police personnel who rushed to Oinamlong village in Tamenglong district to smoke out the Naga insurgents who are signatories to ceasefire have started launching combing operations. This follows a fierce encounter on Tuesday between the armed insurgents of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) and a combined force of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) and Zeliangrong United Front.

There have been occasional exchanges of fire among these insurgents in this district. On hearing the reports of the gun fires the terrified villagers fled. Many of them are yet to return home. These outfits have been at loggerheads over the turf war. In the past, there had been casualties. Police are yet to establish whether there was any casualty in the exchange of fire on Tuesday. However, it is feared that the insurgents had fled to neighbouring Nagaland and high mountains where the security forces cannot reach easily.

The ceasefire monitoring cell keeps a close watch over such exchange of fires which are violations of ground rules of the ceasefire.
