CM hands over police job letters to 18,217

Ahmedabad: Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday handed over appointment letters to 18,217 candidates, including 4527 women, for various ranks in the police at a ceremony held at the Sabarmati riverfront.

“This is for the first time in the history of Gujarat that over 18,000 policemen are given appointment letters. To strengthen the police force, we have recruited over 26,000 candidates in the last one-and-a-half years,” said Mr. Rupani.

To fill up vacancies in various departments and agencies, the State government is in the process of hiring over 60,000 people.

According to Geetha Johri, DGP (in-charge), these newly-recruited police personnel include 13,000 lok rakshaks (constables), 3,904 SRP jawans, 220 sub inspectors, 200 assistant sub inspectors, 752 jail sipoys, 59 intelligence officers, and 82 assistant intelligence officers.
