Chouhan to be sworn in on Dec. 14

Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for the third consecutive time on December 14 at a grand ceremony at the Jamboree Grounds in Bharat Electricals Limited township here, BJP spokesperson Vijendra Sisodia said on Monday.

He confirmed that senior national leaders of the party, including BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and other victorious Chief Ministers, would attend the ceremony.

During the day, Mr. Chouhan submitted his ‘resignation’ to Governor Ram Naresh Yadav and was appointed the caretaker Chief Minister till the new government takes oath. After meeting the Governor Mr. Chouhan told reporters that BJP MLAs would meet to elect a new Chief Minister. “The cabinet and myself are now caretakers until the party decides to appoint the CM and a new cabinet.” The legislature party’s meeting is scheduled for December 13. MPs Sushma Swaraj, Ananth Kumar and Rajiv Pratap Rudy will attend this meeting, where Mr. Chouhan is expected to be anointed the Chief Minister.

The BJP won 165 out of 230 seats in the Assembly poll. The cabinet will see many new faces as 10 sitting ministers have lost.

Sources in the party said Mr. Chouhan would single-handedly choose ministers and their portfolios.

The thirteenth Vidhan Sabha expires of the December 12 and the winter session of the fourteenth Vidhan Sabha is expected to commence soon after the new cabinet is sworn in.
