Nearly 70 children were taken for treatment after an unidentified tablet was found in the midday meal served in a school in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Friday.
The incident took place in the Randaha school in Vaishali. During the course of eating the meal, one child found a yellowish tablet in the plate causing an alarm. Several children complained of nausea and were rushed to the nearby primary healthcare centre. Three of them who had serious symptoms were taken to the Hajipur Sadar hospital. They were later discharged, Vaishali district magistrate Jitendra Srivastava told The Hindu .
The event sparked a scare in the school and by evening 50 more children were taken to the healthcare centre for treatment as a precautionary measure.

Mr. Srivastava said the tablet had been sent for forensic examination. “It has retained about 90 per cent of its solid form. That means only a small part could have been dissolved in the meal. Only forensic examination will tell what tablet it was.”
Friday’s incident is just another in a long series of midday meal and water contamination cases coming to light in Bihar since the Chapra midday tragedy that claimed 23 children’s lives.
