Haryana Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu on Sunday hailed Indian soldiers for their invaluable contribution and sacrifices made by them during the two World Wars and said only those societies and nations make progress which remain thankful to the soldiers.
He was addressing a gathering at the Remembrance Day ceremony organised here jointly by the Consulate-General of Canada and British Deputy High Commission in the memory of those martyred during World War I.
“Indian soldiers made invaluable contribution and supreme sacrifice in the field of battle during the World Wars I and II and all international struggles. These soldiers laid down their lives for their countrymen and homeland and to establish peace in the world,” he said.

Fifteen lakh Indian soldiers took part in World War I, of which about 60,000 laid down their lives and the present generation should remember them with gratitude, he said, adding that Remembrance Day is celebrated in various countries across the world in memory of these soldiers.
Recalling that he had once met the families of soldiers awarded the Victoria Cross in village Dhakla in district Jhajjar, the Haryana Finance Minister said that their sacrifice and martyrdom can never be forgotten.
He added that the next generation of those families are also taking inspiration from the martyrs.
